Cosmetic surgery allows an individual to change the shape or appearance of her body. Augmentation mammoplasty, simply called breast augmentation, is one type of cosmetic surgery. Breast augmentation involves using implants to either restore or enhance a woman’s breast.

Preparing for Breast Cosmetic Surgery

Typically, breast augmentation surgery occurs on an outpatient basis at a surgical center, outpatient clinic or hospital. Prior to surgery, a breast surgeon may want a patient to complete certain tasks to prepare for surgery. For example, a patient may have to quit smoking, stop taking over-the-counter medication like aspirin and get a medical evaluation. A surgeon may require his patient to obtain a baseline mammogram before and after her breast augmentation to identify any changes in the breast tissue. She also has to help her before and after surgery. For instance, she can’t drive to and from the surgery. So someone has to drive her to the appointment and stay with her at least one day after the surgery.

Surgery

During the breast cosmetic surgery, a woman receives a anesthesia drug. The medication places a patient unconscious and relieves pain during the procedure. She can choose to have general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. The surgeon inserts either saline or silicone implants into the breasts.

Recovery Time

Recovery from breast augmentation surgery varies from patient to patient. However, the standard recovery time is generally one to two days. Swelling and soreness doesn’t disappear for approximately three weeks. When a woman can resume her everyday activities depends on her surgeon’s specific instructions. Typically, all surgeons order patients to either apply or take medications that aid the healing process and decrease any complications such as infections. Regardless of the time it takes to recover from receiving breast implants, a woman should always remember the signs associated with surgery complications. For example, if she experiences shortness of breath, changes in her heartbeat or pains in her chest, she should immediately seek medical attention.

Breast augmentation Surgery Cost

Breast augmentation surgery cost varies depending on multiple factors including location, extent of the procedure and doctor’s experience. Other cost included in the surgery consists of post-surgery garments, anesthesia fees, and prescription medication. Thus, breast augmentation surgery cost upwards of $15,000. Although many healthcare insurance providers won’t pay for breast augmentation surgery, some surgeons do offer a financial package to help defray the high price tag. If a woman chooses to have the surgery done outside of the United States then the cost could decrease approximately 80 percent. Surgery cost, however, shouldn’t outweigh the pick of a good, experienced plastic surgeon.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

The reason why women seek to breast augmentation varies. For example, a woman may want the surgery to improve her breast after an illness such as breast cancer, pregnancy or weight reduction. She may want to improve her look or increase self-esteem. Whatever the reason, a woman should know what to expect with breast augmentation surgery.

There are many people in the world that require corrective lenses, whether they use contacts or glasses, in order to perform every day tasks. This may be due to many reasons such as eye damage, old age, and the genes we inherit from our parents. If you are one of these people, it may seem pretty great to get your vision back, and LASIK eye surgery is an option that can provide you with great vision again. Although it may not completely restore your vision to perfect, LASIK can improve vision to a point where you don’t need corrective lenses. Even though this procedure is highly safe and beneficial, along with being fairly affordable, many people are still worried about the procedure and effects. Here, we will outline some concerns you may have.

About LASIK

LASIK eye surgery is a procedure that uses a computer controlled laser to correct a wide range of eye problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. LASIK is able to correct vision and even eliminate astigmatisms by reshaping the eye. After folding back a flap, a laser will modify the shape of your eye so that your eyes can direct light properly onto your retina. Since receiving FDA approval in 1998, and having been practiced long before that, LASIK eye surgery has become a popular choice for vision correction.

The Procedure

During your consultation, your eye doctor will examine your eye and make sure you are a good candidate. Most people are capable of receiving the surgery, as long as you are over 18 and under 65 and do not have any eye diseases. During the screening, your doctor will reexamine your eyes and discuss recommendations for the surgery. While you enter surgery, you will be given eye drops that will reduce any pain and prevent you from blinking. Most patients report not feeling any pain during or afterward, and you vision is restored almost immediately. After just five minutes per eye, you can normally return to work the next day.

Following Eye Surgery

You should take it easy after your surgery, and usually only have to rest a day, as you will not be able to drive, swim, or rub your eyes. The most common side effects include dry eyes and sensitivity to light, but this goes away fairly quickly. Although highly unlikely, LASIK can cause infection and does not guarantee that you won’t need corrective lenses later in life. Most people, though, leave with clear vision that allows them to go about daily activities without glasses or contacts, and these changes are known to be permanent. Overall, the procedure is extremely safe, and as doctors continue to perform surgeries, less side effects are reported.

What are Dental Contouring and Tooth Reshaping?

Tooth reshaping, or contouring, is one of few instant treatments now available in cosmetic dentistry. Dental reshaping and contouring is a procedure to correct crooked teeth, chipped teeth, cracked teeth or even overlapping teeth in just one session.

The dental contouring procedure can even be a substitute for braces under certain circumstances. It is also a procedure of subtle changes. A few millimeters of reduction and a few millimeters of tooth-colored laminate can create a beautiful smile when performed by a cosmetic dentist, with no discomfort to you. Tooth reshaping, or dental contouring, is commonly used to alter the length, shape or position of your teeth.

Who is a candidate for tooth contouring and reshaping?

If you want your teeth to appear less crowded, lack chips and fractures, have decreased overlaps or to be without pits or grooves in the enamel, this procedure should be discussed with your cosmetic dentist. With a little dental contouring, you can make a huge difference in the way you feel about your smile. Good cosmetic dentistry can give you a smile that is the envy of others. Tooth contouring by a cosmetic dentist does require that you have normal, healthy teeth.

Tooth reshaping, or tooth sculpting, is a safe and conservative way to improve your smile. Teeth may become weaker if large amounts of enamel are removed, tooth reshaping should be limited to minor changes or combined with veneers or bonding for the best smile.

Tooth Contouring and Reshaping

Overview of tooth contouring and reshaping

Dental reshaping and contouring is a procedure to correct crooked teeth, chipped teeth, cracked teeth or even overlapping teeth in just one session. This procedure is even a substitute for braces under certain circumstances. This is also a procedure of subtle changes. A few millimeters of reduction and a few millimeters of tooth-colored can create a beautiful smile when performed by a cosmetic dentist, with no discomfort to you. Tooth reshaping, or dental contouring, is commonly used to alter the length, shape or position of your teeth.

How is tooth contouring and reshaping accomplished?

Preparation for dental contouring and reshaping is a team effort with your cosmetic dentist. Some dentists in cosmetic dentistry even use computer imaging to show you how you will look after the procedure.
Your cosmetic dentist will take x-rays to evaluate the size and location of the pulp of each tooth to ensure that there’s enough bone between the teeth to support them.

The cosmetic dentist will mark your teeth with a pencil prior to performing the procedure. This helps the cosmetic dentist in their sculpting process. As your cosmetic dentist sculpts the tooth, imperfections are artfully eliminating or minimized. A sanding drill or laser may be used to remove small amounts of surface enamel gradually. Abrasive strips are then moved back and forth between your teeth to shape the actual sides of your teeth. Then the teeth are smoothed and polished. Usually anesthetic is not needed. Teeth contouring and reshaping usually takes one to three visits.

Contouring teeth may also help correct small problems with bite. It is common for bonding to be combined with tooth reshaping to achieve a beautiful smile.

Types of Tooth Contouring and Reshaping Procedures

There are actually several ways to change the appearance of your teeth. Many times these various procedures are combined in different ways to deliver that smile of your dreams.

Tooth Contouring and Reshaping

The reshaping of a your teeth is a procedure that involves the removal of a very small amount of tooth structure to help achieve a more desirable smile. Chipped or fractured areas are smoothed out and specific angles or edges can be rounded or squared. Contouring creates better alignment and can create a more feminine or masculine smile. It is sometimes done to prevent chipped areas from getting worse. Tooth reshaping is a conservative way to improve the teeth. Since teeth can become weaker if large amounts of enamel are removed, this procedure is limited to minor changes or combined with veneers or bonding for a terrific smile.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are sometimes used in conjunction with contouring. Dental veneers are very thin pieces of specially-shaped porcelain or plastic that are glued over the front of your teeth with little or no anesthesia needed. They are the cure for teeth that are severely discolored, chipped, have small holes or pits, misshapen or crooked, or for the correction of unwanted or uneven spaces. Unlike crowns, veneers won’t require the dentist to remove much of the tooth itself. Veneers are created from an impression taken in your cosmetic dentist’s office. Your custom veneer is then glued directly onto your tooth. (For more information about tooth veneers, click here.)

Tooth Bonding

Basically, bonding will cover any natural flaws applying a thin coating of a plastic material on the front surface of your teeth. After this, your cosmetic dentist will apply a bonding material sculpt, color and shape it to provide a pleasing result. A high-intensity light then hardens the plastic, and the surface is finely polished. This procedure often accompanies contouring and teeth reshaping procedures. (Follow this link for more about tooth bonding.)

Advantages & Disadvantages of Tooth Contouring and Reshaping

Pros and Cons of a tooth contouring and reshaping

Advantages:

Your dentist can remove only a small amount of tooth enamel, contouring your problem tooth into a more pleasing shape for an improved smile. The tooth contouring procedure is quick, simple, painless, and inexpensive.

Disadvantages:

There are limits. You may be at risk for tooth breakage and decay if too much enamel is removed your teeth. If your teeth were uneven because you grind them, they’ll become uneven again until the grinding issue is resolved. Your dental insurance is likely to cover tooth contouring and reshaping only if it is needed as a result of an accident.

Liposuction cosmetic surgery will remove fatty tissue. This type of surgery was first developed in Europe during the late 1960′s, and it basically consists of an operation in which the patient is anesthetized, and then has their liquified fat removed. Many issues affect a patient’s success and several things are considerations that should be made in determining whether or not to undergo an operation.

Liposuction usually has to do with the removal of fat from areas of the body such as the stomach, buttocks, thighs and neck. This can improve your proportions and appearance. Although some people have had 50 pounds removed, this is not generally the case, and the greater the surgery, the more risks that are associated with it.

Anesthesia for these procedures may consist of several different techniques. These depend on the type of surgery that are undergone and include general, regional and local anesthesia. When you or someone you know is considering this type of operation, this is a serious component of the procedure.

Many different things should be done to get ready for this type of operation. You should try to be in the best health possible and refrain from smoking and partaking of alcoholic beverages. Immediately prior to the procedure, a fast may be required to help your skin be in the proper shape. People who have diabetes or other serious diseases are usually not considered as candidates for liposuction.

During the surgery, the patient is usually anesthetized, and then their liquified fat is removed in any one of several methods. A small incision is made in the area under operation, and then the fat may be removed. Suction liposuction occurs when there is a small straw type device that is used to suck the fat out of the body. Ultrasound may be used in which vibrations bursts the fat cell walls. Variations on these two major themes are abundant, but this is the general program that is used.

After the surgery, the patient will usually have to recover for a limited amount of time. This period usually lasts from 2 to 14 days, and is dependent upon the breadth of the procedure. Pain medications can be prescribed, or used over the counter, to alleviate any type of discomfort. Compression garments may also be required so that your skin will attain the desired look. It may take up to six months before the skin returns to the desired shape. Once this time is up, the fat cells that were the target will be gone forever.

Liposuction cosmetic surgery will remove fatty tissue. Many people consider these types of procedures, and they’re becoming more common every day. New breakthroughs since the late 1960′s have enabled physicians to routinely perform liposuction successfully. There are many variations on the general theme, and they all allow for patients to have unwanted and ugly fat cells removed from problem areas. Once the operation has been conducted and is a success, then the targeted fat cells will be gone forever.

Weight-Loss Surgery

For many dieters, weight loss remains a tantalizing mirage. Sometimes people who are seriously overweight need more help than diet and exercise can provide.

Even being moderately overweight can put you at risk for such life-threatening conditions as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, orthopedic problems, gallbladder disease, and sleep apnea. But the risks are even greater if you are seriously or severely overweight (at least 100 pounds overweight or twice your ideal weight). If you are desperate to shed weight to reduce health risks, weight-loss surgery may be an option to consider. But before you decide to take this route, there is much to learn.
Weight-Loss Surgery

Surgery to promote weight loss is a drastic measure. It is a permanent procedure, and to be successful, it requires a lifetime commitment to changes in how and what you eat. Weight-loss surgery, also called bariatric surgery, is for people who are severely overweight and cannot lose weight by traditional means or who suffer from serious, life-threatening, weight-related health problems. If you fit this profile and are determined to lose weight to improve your health, surgery may be the answer. Your health care provider will weigh the risks and benefits to determine whether the risk of NOT having the surgery outweighs the potential complications from having the surgery.

You may be a candidate for weight-loss surgery if you meet these criteria:
• You have tried and failed with dieting, exercise, and lifestyle changes.
• Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40 or greater, or your BMI is between 35 and 40 and you have a life-threatening, weight-related health problem such as diabetes, severe sleep apnea, or heart disease.
• You are more than 100 pounds over ideal weight.
How It Works

There are two main categories of surgery that promote weight loss. Restrictive procedures, which include gastric banding, gastric bypass, and vertical banded gastroplasty, limit the amount of food the stomach can hold by closing off or removing parts of the stomach. This type of surgery does not interfere with the normal digestive process; it prevents you from eating large amounts of food at one time.

Malabsorptive procedures, such as the biliopancreatic diversion and the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RGB), limit the calories and the amount of nutrients that can be absorbed by the intestine in addition to reducing the size of the stomach. In the RGB procedure, a surgeon first creates a small stomach pouch, then makes a direct connection from the pouch to a lower segment of the small intestine, bypassing large portions of the digestive tract that absorb calories and nutrients.

Depending on your weight and medical history, your surgeon may be able to use laparoscopic technology. Instead of making a large incision, a surgeon using laparoscopic techniques makes one or more small incisions through which slender surgical instruments are passed. A laparoscopic procedure usually reduces the length of the hospital stay, diminishes discomfort, limits surgical scarring, and shortens recovery time.

Benefits vs. Risks

Weight-loss surgery is a serious undertaking. You’ll need to clearly understand what the surgery involves and the potential benefits and risks before you make your decision. As with any surgery, there are some risks, but for many people the health risks of remaining at their current weight are greater than the risks of surgery.

Benefits: Most people lose weight fairly rapidly in the first few weeks after surgery and continue to lose for 18 to 24 months afterward. Regaining some weight is common, but most people maintain a long-term weight loss of around 100 pounds or more. Weight-related health conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, and sleep apnea, often improve dramatically with weight loss. Emotional benefits may include a better self-image, higher self-esteem, and the reversal of depression.

Risks: Risks of any surgery can include bleeding, infections, bowel obstruction, and respiratory problems. Follow-up surgery to correct complications is necessary in about 10 to 20 percent of people who have weight-loss surgery. In addition, some people develop gallstones after surgery as well as nutritional deficiencies such as anemia, osteoporosis, and metabolic bone disease. These deficiencies can usually be avoided if you get enough vitamins and minerals from a combination of food and supplements.

Life After Surgery

You will need to follow strict eating instructions provided by your health-care team after weight-loss surgery. In the early weeks, it may be difficult to eat anything without feeling uncomfortably full, and your stomach may still be very tender. Depending on the type of surgery, you may be on a liquid diet for several weeks. Gradually, you will work up to eating soft, easily chewable foods and then progress to frequent, small meals (about two ounces each). The actual number of meals may vary from four to six a day. Not only do you need to adjust to eating more frequently and consuming smaller amounts of food, but you will also need to eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. Initially, you won’t be able to drink fluid with meals because it can cause discomfort. Instead, you’ll drink fluids 1/2 to 1 hour after meals. You will receive lists of suggested foods to eat and foods to avoid. In general, you will need to eat foods higher in protein and low in fat.

Depending on the type of surgery you have, you may need to take a multivitamin with iron every day and a calcium supplement. You may also need intramuscular shots of vitamin B 12.

Weight-loss surgery may be an option to consider if you need more help than diet and exercise can provide. Bariatric surgery is a drastic measure. Learn as much as you can and speak with your doctor to make the best decision.

There are times when our teeth become totally worn out. It may be due to decay below levels where we can receive dental fillings, teeth get broken, enamels are cracked and teeth have root canals, then the next best solution would be dental caps for the teeth. Dental caps, also known as crowns or dental crowns, are a form of dental restoration for teeth are completely worn out. This restoration covers the tooth completely. It completely crowns the tooth, or caps it. The reason is to improve the appearance of the teeth and provide them with strength and structure.

Teeth wear out by teeth grinding, an over bite or other improper bite, rotting and decayed teeth and even regular breakage of teeth. Tooth caps can provide a solution to these problems. Dental caps, also known as crowns and tooth caps will cover the entire tooth surface. The caps will then provide the teeth with stability, durability and structural strength.

Candidates That Qualify For Dental Caps

Any individual that grinds their teeth, has rotten teeth, an improper bite such as an overbite, under bite or a side bite; people with cracked teeth or broken teeth and people that have decayed or decaying teeth and those with excessive teeth problems that cause them problems and are likely to see a deterioration of their teeth also qualify for dental caps.

Dental caps are usually designed by use of a process known as dental impression. Here, a candidate will make a bite on a mold which then assumes the shape of their teeth. This mold will be used to form the caps. Caps are usually made of various materials, most of which are quite costly. The caps, once ready, are attached to the teeth using dental cement.

The Tooth Cap Procedure

The process of designing and installing tooth caps is fairly technical and will need the input of two different teeth doctors. These are an orthodontist and a regular dentist. The orthodontist or cosmetic dentist will prepare the mold impression of a patient’s teeth. The impression will be taken to a laboratory where the dental laboratory staff will customize special caps for the patient.

How are Dental Caps Attached to your Tooth?

During the initial stages, a patient will receive temporary teeth caps or crowns to wear for a number of days until the permanent tooth caps are completed. The permanent caps, once ready, will be cemented on to the teeth using dental cement. This procedure takes about two visits to the dentists practice.

It is sometimes essential to replace and fill in any cavities using tooth fillings before the installation of the permanent caps. Some restoration of the teeth is necessary. Consideration should be made in regards to the color of the crowns or tooth cap is it will tend to affect the overall color of the porcelain cap. Sometimes a flipper may be used by a dentist in place of a temporary tooth crown. This is a false tooth used in place of a missing tooth. It needs to be in place before the permanent tooth caps are put in place.
