1.  Lawyers and lawsuits are out of control.  I am sure you are familiar with the suit against MacDonalds where a lady spilled hot coffee on her legs and was awarded tens of millions of dollars in damages.  Doctors here are forced to pay upwards of $100,000 annually for medical malpractice insurance to protect themselves against fraudulent lawsuits.  They are also forced to practice defensive medicine to protect against lawsuits so they run so many unnecessary costly tests just to make certain that they are 100% covered. In Colombia all of our hospitals, clinics, and Doctors carry insurance but their annual premiums are usually under $10,000.,

2.  The salaries in Colombia of Doctors, Nurses, and supporting personnel are about 20% of US salaries for similar occupations even though they are required to have the same level of education and job skills.  In Colombia building costs, rent, land costs etc. are only a fraction of what they are in the US.  These savings are passed on to you - the customer.

3.  The US dollar is strong and you will get upwards of 2000 pesos per dollar.

4.  The US healthcare system is so big, so disorganized most of the dollars paid in never go to the Physicians.  Layers and layers of people hired to find a way to deny your claims and the resulting tons of paperwork result in higher prices to you - the customer.
